Strategic Direction

The AIA is committed to ensuring that agrology remains a viable, future-oriented profession, by fulfilling the requirements of the Agrology Profession Act to establish, maintain, and enforce a code of ethics and standards of registration, practice, and continuing competence, and to address complaints about professional conduct.

  • Code of Ethics: The AIA maintains a comprehensive Code of Ethics, reviewed for relevancy every five years.
  • Registration: The AIA has developed entrance standards that establish the education and knowledge required of any professional practicing agrology.
  • Practice Standards: The profession divides into 19 separate areas of practice. To advance competence, the AIA has committed to developing practice standards that describe the knowledge, skill, and performance requirements of each practice area. Practice standards are reviewed every five years to confirm that they remain relevant and current.
  • Practice Reviews: The AIA reviews the practice of selected agrologists to ensure the public interest is served and protected.
  • Continuing Competence Program: Each agrologist must submit a record of continuing education each year.
  • Complaints: The AIA administers an accessible complaints system to address professional conduct.

The Institute’s Strategic Plan 2022-2025 is intended to enhance the way in which the AIA fulfills its mandate and functions.
