Continuing Competence Rules

A continuing competence program (CCP) is a basic tenet of professional regulatory management and is at the center of what it means to be a professional. All professionals are required to maintain evidence of CCP to assure the public that they are staying current within their areas of practice and are committed to life-long learning. Staying current with changes in one’s practice is essential to maintain public trust. The Alberta Legislature passes legislation on behalf of the public to create and regulate professions.

The AIA's course in "Professional Ethical Competency" is now a required course as part of your CCP requirements. This requirement applies to PAg and RTAg members on the General Register only. The course is a mandatory requirement and must be taken every three years. As the new CCP rules do not come into effect until January 2024, the first ethics course will become available to AIA members in March, 2024. The free, 4 hour course will be offered online with registration through the AIA website.
